alpha Kappa Delta Phi International Sorority, Inc. proudly promotes our national philanthropy, Breast Cancer Awareness, a project that is dedicated to fundraising towards and increasing public knowledge about the early detection of breast cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. We donate all proceeds from our breast cancer awareness events to Breast Cancer Research Foundation. A new diagnosis of breast cancer in the U.S. occurs every 3 minutes. This year, more than 180,000 women in the United States will learn for the first time that they have breast cancer, and more than 40,000 women will lose their lives because of it. We support breast cancer foundations that aim to facilitate research collaborations to accelerate knowledge about the causes, diagnosis, treatments, and ways to prevent breast cancer. We are constantly supporting efforts that ensure the best quality of care for all, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
The Iota Chapter of alpha Kappa Delta Phi works diligently to contribute as much as we can in the search for a cure. Every semester, we typically raise around $7,000. In 2019, we raised $20,000 and during the pandemic we were still able to raise $10,000 and was #1 out of our 63 international chapters to raise the most money for breast cancer awareness. We also won the Anita Tso Philanthropy Award, which recognizes one outstanding chapter a year who has not only surpassed other chapters in contributing to the fight against breast cancer, but has also participated in numerous community service and volunteer activities consistently throughout the year. This year, we will be hosting our annual events Bingo for A Cause in the fall and Mr. Pink Male Pageant in the spring. At the Bingo event, people from the Houston community have the opportunity to win prizes from bingo and raffle drawings. In the pageant, each contestant will be representing an organization that they are a part of as they feature in entertaining performances for the audience and compete to be crowned as Mr. Pink!
With service as one of our pillars, we are often finding ways to volunteer and give back to the community. Like Gandhi said, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
Thank you to all of our past sponsors for supporting the causes, and a big thank you to the sponsors who continue to do so! We could have not done it without you! If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for our philanthropic events or you would like to volunteer, please contact us and a representative will get back to you shortly.
